Since we are surrounded
by such a great cloud of witnesses,
we too, then, should throw off
everything that weighs us down
During this month of November, dedicated to remembrance, we especially remember and celebrate our own cloud of witnesses. On the 18th we celebrate the feast of St Philippine Duchesne, a woman whose single-minded, whole-hearted pursuit of God made her throw off everything that weighed her down. Then on the 21st we recall that day in 1800 when Sophie and her first companions made the faith-filled vowed commitment which gave birth to the Society of the Sacred Heart. In their zeal and their passion for God they too refused to allow themselves to be weighed down.
May Sophie, Philippine and all our foremothers in the Society surround us with their prayers, and continue to inspire us in our lives and mission
