On 22nd September Stephen B Whatley, the Catholic expressionist artitst, unveiled his newest "painted prayer"... of St Madeleine Sophie. The image is reproduced below, with his permission, along with his commentary. Appearing midway through our Province Assembly, this new image felt like an extra special blessing on our endeavours from Sophie!

You can view Stephen's portfolio on his website, from where originals and signed prints can be purchased. His religious art is in the "Christian Tributes" section. The original of one of his images of the Sacred Heart belongs to one of our schools in the USA - Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart - which has now purchased this image of Sophie.

Peace, love and light through Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat... my latest work of painted prayers.

I was inspired to begin this painting of the Patron Saint of School Girls on The Feast of The Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary. 2020 is the 95th anniversary year of the canonisation of the French Sister Barat (1779 - 1865) - who founded the Society of The Sacred Heart; and was drawn to help provide education for the poorest.

Whilst I researched and looked at historic images to get to know Saint Madeleine Sophie, my prayers led me to imagine her in her younger years, when she took her vows for the Society of The Sacred Heart, beginning teaching at 21.

The Sacred Heart increasingly emerged which was very moving - as I have a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Humbly, I felt guided by the Holy Spirit to introduce perhaps more Crosses throughout the painting than any of my other tributes... and felt such love and compassion materialising as I painted her face.

Blessings of peace, love light, healing and new beginnings through Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat ~
