We live in North Oxford, close to the centre of the city backing onto the University Parks. The house built in the 1860's is typical of the area having been built for professionals and the dons of the University.
Oxford is well known as a University and its colleges dominate the city giving it both beauty and life. It is an old city buzzing with young people from all over the world. During term time undergraduates and their bicycles can be met everywhere but during the vacations pavements are crowded with school pupils from across the globe some simply on a visit and others for language school, of which there are many.
There is another picture of Oxford, the Town of "town and gown", its industrial areas, housing estates and pockets of deprivation, its shops and leisure industry.
The Society of the Sacred Heart came to Oxford in 1929 so that the sisters could attend the University. The house is still full of students but has become a hostel for postgraduate students who would like to live in a community. The offering of a student community keeps us in touch with the many parts of the world from which they come and their 'world' of academic studies.

We aim to live "faithful to the spirit of Sophie, a woman of relationships and dialogue..." and desire to be a community "open to all, sharing life and faith, dreams and struggles, our goods and resources" (General Chapter 2008)
