70th ANNIVERSARY OF VOWS Congraulations, prayers and good wishes go to Amy Micallef Eynaud (on the right, with a parishioner), who today (20th February) celebrates seventy years since her first vows. We give thanks for so many years of generous, loving and faithful service, and continued gift of herself.
Amy came to England from Malta to join the Society just as WWII broke out. Soon after the noviceship was evacuated to Kinross in Scotland, where Amy made her vows. At the time of their vows novices would choose a motto to express their relationship with God and desire for their life as RSCJ. Amy chose a combination from John's Gospel and The Imitation of Christ: Thou in me and I in Thee. Grant that we abide thus in one.

FRANCES MAKOWER RIP After a long illness Frances peacefully entered the fullness of life on 25th January 2012. Born in 1930, Frances originally hoped to enter religious life in the late 1950s; however, due to complications following major surgery she had to wait until 1967. She taught for many years and then spent several years working in a church-run project with homeless young people and drug users. This experience formed the basis of her book Faith or Folly? published in 1989.
In 1985, when her health deteriorated, Frances had to abandon active work, and became a freelance writer and journalist. She was the author of Call and Response: Jesuit Journeys in Faith (1994), Elizabeth Longford: The Authorised Biography (!998) and Towards Tomorrow (2000), and collaborated on On The Way Home: Reflections for Old Age (1994) and The Path to Calvary: Reflections on the Stations of the Cross (2000).
Frances had been born and brought up as a liberal Jew, and became a Catholic as a young adult. She very fittingly died on the feast of the Conversion of St Paul, her ancestor in faith and conversion, who is also the patron saint of writers and journalists.
FINAL PROFESSIONS IN ROME - JANUARY 15TH 2012 We pray with and for the nine RSCJ from five provinces who made their perpetual professions of vows in Rome on Sunday 15th January. May they be strengthened in their mission of being the transforming love of God to all those they encounter. See prayer and reflection See account on international website
