Llannerchwen means "beautiful, holy glade". It is a place of stillness and silence described by visitors as "a haven" "a thin place where God is very near".
Located just outside the mid-Wales market town of Brecon, this rather special place offers the opportunity for people from a wide variety of faith backgrounds and experience to spend some time in solitude, to make a private retreat or individually guided retreat.
Accommodation is in individual hermitages or a small cottage and bungalow. Self catering is possible in every residence as well as the option of a cooked main meal during individually guided retreats.
This project has been run by the Society of the Sacred Heart since 1979. There is a small resident community of sisters and an ecumenical team of visiting spiritual directors.
Set amidst the beauty of the Brecon Beacons, Llannerchwen offers plenty of opportunity for walks. The extensive grounds provide space for contemplation and gardening. There is also space for creative arts and movement, a small
library and a chapel where each evening the community and all visitors are invited to pray if they wish.
